Steve Zytveld, Chaplain
Hi, I’m Steve! I have been an ordained vocational deacon in the Anglican Church of Canada since September 2019, having achieved my Master of Divinity degree from St Paul University in June of that year. Apart from here at Carlington Community Chaplaincy, I also minister at St Barnabas Anglican Church on Kent Street, and I am the Coordinator of Anglican Pastoral Services at the Ottawa Hospital.
Prior to my ordination, I worked as a security guard, a cafe waiter, a bookstore clerk, a manual labourer, a shop steward for my union, a reporter, and president of my students’ union at St Paul University; I have also been involved in Ottawa’s literary and music communities since the early 1990s, and have been blessed to be able to help many young writers and musicians find their creative voices. These past opportunities have not only allowed me to engage in a wide range of life experiences but have also shaped my faith, especially the sanctity of every person’s spiritual journey regardless of their religion, faith, creed, or even their lack thereof.
I presently live in a book-crammed apartment in Centre town Ottawa with my wife and our two guinea pigs. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing, and experiencing the wonders of Creation by walking in our city’s parks and wooded areas.
Drop by soon for a visit, or for a healthy snack, coffee, or conversation in our friendly, respectful, and inclusive space – and we always welcome new participants and volunteers. I look forward to seeing you soon!
